Major change on cards for Pakistani passports

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Immigration & Passports has announced a decision to change Pakistani passports. As per latest reports, the authorities are mulling adding the mother’s name as a mandatory feature, along with father’s name for new passports.

According to a spokesperson for Passport and Immigration department, the decision to include mother’s name has been made keeping in mind the social needs and in line with the international standards.

The spokesperson said that the aim of this move is to meet international requirements.

Regarding those already in possession of passports without this update, no final decision has been announced so far, the spokesperson said. There is a possibility of passport holders requiring issuance of a new passport, but there is a higher likelihood that the new update will be applicable only for new issuances.

Officials say that the current passports will remain valid until their due date and the new change will be applied to passports issued in the future.
