Major roads in Islamabad closed for foreign teams’ movement

ISLAMABAD: Authorities have announced a temporary traffic diversion plan for Wednesday due to the movement of foreign cricket teams staying in the capital for the ongoing Champions Trophy.

According to Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), various roads, including Srinagar Highway, Club Road, Murree Road, Faizabad, Jinnah Avenue, 9th Avenue, and Express Highway, will experience intermittent closures between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. 

Traffic disruptions expected 

The ITP has warned that congestion and slow movement are expected on Srinagar Highway and Express Highway during the specified period. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes and underpasses for smoother travel.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) has recommended citizens to factor in an additional 20 minutes for their journeys to avoid inconvenience. 

Alternative traffic routes

  • Traffic from Express Highway is advised to use Khanna Pul and Park Road. 
  • Islam Chowk and IJP Road will remain open. 
  • Motorists traveling from B-17 and B-15 towards Blue Area or F-6, F-7 should use Margalla Road. 
  • Those traveling from H-13 and G-13/14 to Blue Area should take G-13 underpass and Srinagar Highway service road. 
  • Travelers heading towards F-6 and F-7 should use 9th Avenue and H-8 underpass. 
  • For Red Zone access, motorists should use Margalla Road, Express Chowk, Ayub Chowk, or Nadra Chowk. 
  • Commuters traveling from Red Zone to Faizabad should take the Convention Centre and Club Road route. 

The ITP has urged citizens to plan their travel accordingly and follow official traffic advisories.

Afghanistan shocked England in 2023 when they humbled the defending world champions by 69 runs in New Delhi.
