Man saves wife from crocodile after it drags her into Sukkur canal

SUKKUR: A woman was seriously injured on Saturday after being mauled by a crocodile while washing clothes in the Nara Canal near RD-115.

According to police, the reptile grabbed 30-year-old Kariman Bibi in its jaws and dragged her into the water.

Her husband, Hab Ali, said he was by the canal when the crocodile attacked his wife. “I immediately jumped into the canal and rescued my wife, who was unconscious and badly injured,” he said.

The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is receiving treatment for her wounds. Her leg, which the crocodile bit, is severely injured.

According to Africa Safaris, crocodile bites are known for their extreme force, with some saltwater crocodiles exerting around 3,700 pounds per square inch of pressure.

According to hospital victim will also undergo treatment to prevent infection, as crocodile bites are highly prone to it. Antibiotics are usually administered in such cases.

Her husband added that the crocodile was still lurking along the canal bank, causing panic in the area.

Residents complained that the wildlife department had yet to respond despite being informed of the incident.

Crocodiles escape from Safari Park

In April 2024, panic and chaos gripped the area as a number of crocodiles ‘escaped’ from the Safari Park near Deharki in Sindh and ventured into the nearby areas due to the negligence of the administration.

After escaping from the Safari Park, the crocodiles ventured into a village and feasted on the chickens and plunged to nearby Qazi Wah Canal.  The villagers managed to capture a three feet long crocodile with self-help.

The people of the area feared that the presence of crocodiles in the canal is a constant threat to the lives of children and cattle.

Wild animal attacks in Pakistan

The crocodile attack in Sukkur is not an isolated incident — wild animal attacks are relatively common in Pakistan.

The most recent example occurred in the Jhelum Valley area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on July 26, when a leopard mauled a minor girl to death.

Days later, the same leopard struck again, this time attacking a teenage boy. Following the second incident, the predator was shot dead by a Pakistan Army sniper team.

Earlier, on the night of July 3, a shocking incident unfolded in Johar Town’s Shah Di Khoi area when a “pet lion” kept at a farmhouse escaped from its cage and attacked a woman and two children, injuring all three.

CCTV footage shows the lion leaping over the farmhouse’s boundary wall and attacking a woman walking on the street.

A man from the farmhouse can be seen running after the lion in an attempt to rescue her, but the animal moved on to injure two children — five-year-old Zoya and seven-year-old Azhan — according to the footage.
