MASTUNG: Two Levies Force officials were martyred and another wounded when unidentified attackers opened fire on security personnel assigned to protect a polio vaccination team in the Tiri area of Mastung on Wednesday, officials confirmed.

The martyred official was identified as Naik Muhammad, while his colleague Maqsood Ahmed could not sustain injuries. Both were shifted to Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area as investigations into the attack began.

Govt condemns attack

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “tragic incident”: “The provincial government is thoroughly investigating all aspects of this attack. We will not allow any sabotage of the polio vaccination campaign.”

Paying tribute to the martyred personnel, Rind said: “We honour the sacrifices of our security personnel and their dedication makes us proud.”

The spokesperson added that security measures were being enhanced across the province to improve the protection of polio teams during the ongoing vaccination drive.
