LAHORE: Renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil has shared his fondness for movies and music during his student days in an episode of Hafiz Ahmed Podcast on YouTube.
During the podcast interview, Jamil for the first time, said that during his hostel days in college, he would regularly read the weekly magazine Muswar, which featured a picture of the legendary singer Noor Jahan on its cover.
“I used to listen to Noor Jahan’s songs. Besides, I was fan of the Indian singers such as Muhammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar, and later Kishore Kumar, who became very popular then,” he said.
The religious scholar said that he even sang Mageshkar’s song Ghar Aya Pardesi from the film Aawara during a college programme back then.

He said that he enjoyed the experience and went on for three days, then for 40 days, and eventually, his friend convinced him to join for four months.
Jamil admitted that he had considered running away from the Tabligh to watch a popular movie of the time Do Rangeela by celebrated Pakistani comedian Rangeela.
“I lied to my friend that I had no clothes and ran out of money, so that he would allow me to go home, but instead, he gave me money and provided me with clothes and after that, there was no looking back, I remained in Tabligh forever,” the religious scholar added.
