May 9 anniversary: no holiday tomorrow in Pakistan, says Attaullah Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Ataullah Tarar announced on Monday that there would be no holiday in Pakistan on Thursday, the anniversary of the May 9 mayhem.

Tarrar while addressing a press conference in Islamabad said that ceremonies will be held to honour the martyrs, but there will be no holiday tomorrow.

No official notification has been released by the government regarding a holiday for tomorrow. All schools, colleges, universities, and offices will operate as usual.

Earleir today, Former president Dr Arif Alvi calling for the formation of an independent commission to probe the May 9 mayhem said that the responsible should be held accountable.

Separately, PTI on Tuesday announced to stage peaceful protests across the country on May 9 — a day when military installations were attacked following the arrest of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan last year. This later led to a widespread state crackdown on the PTI, its leadership and workers, some of whom are still languishing in jails facing trials in military and civilian courts.
