Violent clashes erupted across Pakistan on May 9, 2023, following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Protests broke out in both major cities and remote areas as PTI workers reacted angrily to their chairman’s detention. Law enforcement in Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad had to call in the armed forces to maintain order.
During the unrest, army installations, including the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, came under attack by PTI supporters.
The PTI founder remains the main accused in all cases related to the May 9 riots.
