Medical college quotas for KP, Balochistan students increased

ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal on Friday announced an increase in medical college quotas across the country, addressing long-standing concerns of students from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and former FATA regions.

During a press conference at the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) in Islamabad, the minister said 190 additional seats had been approved for students facing admission issues.

A total of 333 seats have been added for Balochistan and KP students. Kamal thanked the PMDC team for their efforts, saying students can now seek admission in any province.

He urged medical colleges in Balochistan and KP to improve their standards and increase their local quotas to accommodate more students within their regions.

Kamal emphasised that medical programs such as MBBS and BDS have also seen seat expansions to help resolve capacity challenges.

The minister pointed out that previously, students from Karachi were being sent to Sukkur and Larkana due to limited seats, calling the situation unjust.

“Our society needs serious reform,” he said, adding that any evidence of corruption in the health sector would be addressed immediately.

Switching to national security, Kamal responded strongly to Indian rhetoric, calling it hollow. “India’s threats won’t scare us. If their army dares to cross the border, 250 million Pakistanis will stop them from returning,” he said. He also backed the defence minister’s stance that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is not just symbolic.

Referring to ongoing Indian aggression and global silence over Gaza, Kamal said: “If the world couldn’t force surrender from innocent children and mothers in Gaza, what can India do to us?”

He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve: “Don’t try to frighten us with death.”
