Mehr Bano Shah, others arrested during protest

MULTAN: Mehr Bano Shah, daughter of PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, along with several others, was arrested on Saturday for protesting in Multan.

The Punjab government earlier imposed Section 144 across the province ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest.

The Home Department Punjab had issued a notification prohibiting all kinds of political assemblies, gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, jalsas, protests, and other activities across Punjab on February 08, 2025, Saturday.

In anticipation of PTI’s planned protest, police were deployed at key locations, including Chowk Ghanta Ghar, Chungi No. 9, Nawan Shehar Chowk, and Chowk Kachehri. Prison vans were also stationed at various points.

Mehr Bano, Mehar Dalair Khan, and Zahid Bahar Hashmi were leading the protest rally when police cracked down on participants and made multiple arrests for violating section 144.

Mehr Bano Shah has been taken to Makhdoom Rasheed police station after her arrest.

After the arrest of both leaders and several workers, the protestors dispersed.

It is to be noted here that the PTI had announced to hold a black day nationwide and a power show in Swabi against the ‘rigged’ 8 February 2024 election in Pakistan.
