Mehwish Hayat launches production company in UK


KARACHI: Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has launched her UK-based production house “Pink Llama Films” to ‘truly’ represent Muslims and Pakistanis in the western media.

Taking to her Instagram, Hayat expressed her excitement about venturing into the role of a producer. She said, “I’ve been working on something special for quite some time. I have spoken extensively about the representation of Muslims and Pakistanis in the western media, and it has become clear to me that talking alone is not enough. If we want to change these perceptions, we need to take matters into our own hands.”

The Sitara-e-Imtiaz recipient actress drew inspiration from her experience working on the “Marvel” cinematic universe series, Ms Marvel, where she played the character Aisha.

She said the project solidified her belief in the importance of ‘accurate’ representation of Muslims and called it as the “prime push” for her to establish Pink Llama Films.

The Teri Meri Kahaniyan actress, along with her partners have developed an impressive slate of projects in collaboration with award-winning partners challenging stereotypes, dispelling misconceptions and showcasing the multifaceted dimensions of Muslim and Pakistani identities.

The announcement of her production company has been met with a resounding response from both fans and industry professionals.

Prominent figures from the entertainment fraternity, including Zara Noor Abbas, Nabeel Qureshi, Ushna Shah, Wajahat Rauf, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and others, have expressed their support and well wishes for Hayat’s new initiative.
