Met Office forecast of monsoon rains from July 12


ISLAMABAD: With the impending onset of monsoon rains scheduled to commence across the country from 13th July, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding the inundation of low-lying areas and the increased risk of landslides in hilly regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon winds originating from the Arabian Sea will penetrate the upper and central regions of the country by the evening of 12th July. The monsoon is expected to gain intensity until 14th July. On 14th July, this series of westerly winds will also reach the upper regions of the country.

The Meteorological Department has said that there was a likelihood of heavy rainfall in Neelam Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sidhnoti, Kotli, Bhimbar, Mirpur, Murree, and Galiat during the period from 12th July to 17th July. Additionally, thunderstorms are anticipated in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, and Okara.

Similarly, intermittent rainfall is expected in Diamer, Astor, Ghazar, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shagar areas of Gilgit-Baltistan from the evening of 13th July to 17th July. Clouds are also anticipated in Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Karam, Lucky Marwat, and Kohat.

The Meteorological Department has further said that from 14th July to 16th July, strong winds and thunderstorms may also occur in Sindh cities such as Sukkur, Jacobabad, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, and Mirpur Khas.
