GILGIT: Shigar police on Wednesday recovered a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by a family friend over an unpaid debt.
The suspect, identified as Rehmanullah from Chilas, is said to have taken the child, Kabir Ali, following a night spent at the boy’s home.
The incident came to light when the boy’s mother, a resident of Ghizer currently living in Hashupi, Shigar, lodged a complaint with the city police station.

She reported that Rehmanullah, who had visited their home and stayed overnight, left in the morning with her son under the pretext of taking him to the market. Instead, he transported Kabir Ali to Skardu and subsequently to Chilas.
Rehmanullah later contacted the boy’s family, informing them that Kabir Ali would not be returned until the outstanding loan owed by the family was repaid.
Acting on the complaint, a case was registered at Shigar City Police Station, and a special team was formed to recover the child.
“With the assistance of a local jirga, we successfully retrieved the child and reunited him with his family,” said Muhammad Khan, moharir at the police station.
The suspect, however, was not arrested, and investigations are ongoing to bring him to justice.
