Earlier, the Sindh government banned the entry of dumpers into the vicinity of Karachi city during the day, permitting their access only between 11pm and 6 am.
The decision was made during a traffic accident review meeting chaired by Sindh’s chief secretary on the directives of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The decision was made in response to chronic traffic disruptions and a series of deadly road accidents caused by dumpers in Karachi.
Earlier, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori raised concerns over the alarming rise in fatal accidents involving dumpers in Karachi. He had asked, “Why are such incidents happening only in Karachi?”
He had highlighted the troubling pattern of dump truck drivers fleeing the scene after crushing pedestrians, calling it a serious issue. The governor stressed that companies owning the dumpers involved in accidents must be held accountable.
Tessori has given the provincial government a one-week deadline to formulate a strategy against the dumper mafia. He warned that if the government fails to act, he will personally announce a plan to tackle the issue.
