Monday weather: heat persists but PMD predicts rain

Tuesday weather

WEB DESK: Hot and humid conditions are likely to persist across most regions of Pakistan on Monday, said Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). However, strong winds, thundershowers, and isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in several northern and upper areas.

Going region by region, in Islamabad and surrounding areas, partly cloudy skies are expected. Rain with strong winds and thundershowers may develop during the night, with a high chance of heavy rain at a few locations.

In Punjab, most districts are expected to remain hot and humid. However, evening and night hours may bring thundershowers and strong winds to areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, and Khushab.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, similar conditions are forecast. Rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected in several districts during the evening and night, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram, Peshawar, and surrounding areas. Heavy rain may occur in upper districts.

In Sindh, hot and humid conditions will prevail across most areas, with partly cloudy skies expected along the coast.

In Balochistan, too, hot and humid weather is forecast for most parts, while coastal areas may experience partly cloudy conditions. Rain with strong winds and thundershowers may develop in Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, and nearby regions by evening or night.

In Kashmir, partly cloudy skies are likely, with strong winds, thundershowers, and isolated heavy rainfall expected. Likewise, in Gilgit-Baltistan, partly cloudy weather is forecast, with a chance of strong winds and thundershowers in some areas.

The public is advised to remain alert in regions where heavy rainfall is expected, as it may lead to localised flooding or disruption in low-lying areas.

PUNJAB PDMA ISSUES WARNING

More rains expected in various cities from tomorrow to August 7, Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said, adding that the rains might also lead to moderate flooding in Chenab and Jhelum rivers.

An alert has been issued to the District Emergency Operation Centers (DEOCs) including the Control Room, PDMA said. The sixth series of monsoon rains will continue till August 17, PDMA added.

Landslides may also occur in hilly areas of Murree due to torrential rain. WASA and municipal institutions should not allow water to stagnate in low-lying areas, PDMA directives said.
