ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted above-normal rainfall and soaring temperatures for the upcoming monsoon season 2025, warning of possible floods and heat-related threats.
DG PMD Mehar Sahibzad said that the country is likely to receive higher-than-usual rainfall from July to September, particularly in central and northern Punjab, upper Sindh, and eastern Balochistan. These areas could face flooding and other environmental challenges.
However, southern Punjab, northern KP, and Gilgit-Baltistan may see below-normal rainfall during the same period. Nationwide, temperatures are expected to rise sharply, especially in Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.

The Met chief warned that extreme heat during Monsoon 2025 could accelerate glacier melt, triggering glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in northern regions. Flash floods and landslides are also possible.
He added that these weather patterns could disrupt agriculture, damage fruit crops, and strain the power transmission system in several parts of the country.
