ISLAMABAD: With Punjab facing the devastation caused by historic floods, another monsoon system will start affecting the eastern and southern parts of the province as well as Sindh from September 6, authorities warned on Thursday.

Citing the advisory issued by the Met Office, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said a low-pressure system, currently located over Madhya Pradesh in India, was likely to move west-northwest, reaching Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Sindh.
As a result, rain-wind and thundershower with isolated heavy falls are expected from September 6 (evening/night) to September 8 in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Khanewal, Multan, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Addu and Dera Ghazi Khan.
However, the rain activity would be isolated in the case of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad.
On the other hand, Sindh — barring Karachi and some other adjoining areas, would experience heavy rains during the forecast period.
The latest weather system would only complicate the situation in Punjab where Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are rampaging through the fertile plains, making people homeless, destroying crops and snatching away the sources of livelihood.
And the first flood surge is expected to reach Guddu on September 6 in Sindh.
Moreover, densely-populated urban centres around the world are protected from floodwaters to save human lives. Pakistan too isn’t an exemption. That’s why the farmers are worst affected in floods, as dykes are breached to control the waterflow.
It’s a developing story. Details to follow.
