ISLAMABAD: Torrential monsoon rains have disrupted life across Pakistan, flooding low-lying areas, damaging homes, and causing widespread power outages.

The downpours, which have intensified in recent days, have brought death and destruction particularly in Balochistan, while Lahore remains battered by non-stop rain.

BALOCHISTAN: 11 LIVES LOST, DOZENS OF HOMES DAMAGED

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), monsoon rains in Balochistan have claimed 11 lives, including women and children, since June 28.

Eight people were injured in rain-related incidents, while at least 47 houses were reported damaged. Out of these, eight homes were completely destroyed and 39 partially damaged.

Most fatalities occurred in Zhob, Ziarat, Musakhel, Khuzdar, Loralai, Lasbela, and Kohlu. In Khuzdar, a wall collapse killed a child and left another person injured. Heavy rainfall has caused flooding and power disruptions across several areas in the province.

LAHORE: POWER SUPPLY HIT

In Lahore, monsoon rains continue to pour relentlessly, with over six hours of uninterrupted showers recorded on Wednesday.

WASA officials said the highest rainfall was logged at Pani Wala Talab (167 mm), followed by Nishtar Town (162 mm), Gulberg (139 mm), Iqbal Town (135 mm), and several other areas receiving over 100 mm.

The heavy downpour caused over 142 LESCO feeders to trip, leaving several neighbourhoods without electricity. LESCO officials said restoration work would begin as soon as weather conditions improve.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said WASA and district administration teams are actively engaged in drainage operations on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She confirmed all underpasses in Lahore are clear, though some low-lying areas remain waterlogged. Teams are working round the clock to remove the accumulated rainwater.

In Punjab, cities such as Gujrat, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Narowal, Jaranwala, Muridke, and Okara also experienced urban flooding and power breakdowns due to feeder trips.

SINDH

In Sindh, intense rainfall hit Dadu, Sehwan, Jacobabad, Shahdadkot, and Garhi Khairo. Meanwhile, Balochistan’s Musa Khel, Sibi, and Kohlu received heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, causing widespread power outages and damaging infrastructure.

FORECAST: MORE RAIN AHEAD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rains over the next 48 hours. Authorities have issued alerts for flash floods in streams and rivers, landslides in hilly areas, and urban flooding in major cities.

Rescue and relief departments remain on high alert as the country braces for the next wave of monsoon downpours.
