Morning rain breaks heat cycle across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Heavy morning rain coupled with strong winds in most parts of Pakistan has broken the wave of heat and humidity and has brought a significant change in the weather.

Early morning showers in Punjab cities like Lahore, Attock, Taxila, Chunian, Manchanabad, Gujranwala, Narowal, Gujrat, and Kasur have made the weather pleasant.

Heavy rain was reported in many areas of Lahore, including Shimla Pahari, Lakshmi Chowk, Gowalmandi, Qartaba Chowk, Davis Road, Mall Road, Ichhra, Qainchi, Chungi Amar Sidhu, Gajjumata, Islamapura, Band Road, Anarkali, Shalimar Bagh, Model Town, Gulberg, and Garden Town.

The rain has broken the heat, bringing joy to the residents. However, some places faced disruptions in electricity supply due to the rain.

Islamabad & Rawalpindi: The federal capital, Islamabad, experienced heavy rain with thunder, while Rawalpindi also saw hail along with rainfall. This weather change has provided relief from the heat, making the twin cities’ residents breathe a sigh of relief.

Karachi: In Karachi, clouds have settled over the city with light drizzle reported in several areas. Clifton, DHA, and Korangi experienced light rain, making the weather pleasant.

Destruction in Rakhi Gaj In Dera Ghazi Khan, the tribal area of Rakhi Gaj in the Koh-e-Sulaiman range witnessed severe destruction due to torrential rains. Landslides in a 10-kilometer area have disrupted traffic between Punjab and Balochistan.

According to NDMA, Rainfall is expected to exceed 50-100 millimeters, potentially causing local streams to flood and urban flooding. Urban areas like Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Rawalpindi are at risk of urban flooding, while landslides and flash flooding may occur in Galiyat, Kashmir, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Murree.
