MULTAN: The Multan-Sukkur Motorway M-5 still remains closed for traffic on Monday near Jalalpur Pirwala due to flooding.
Cracks have developed on the motorway due to flood water passing under the motorway, due to which the Uch Sharif highway has also been closed.
According to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, the traffic is being diverted to alternate routes due to the closure.
For northbound traffic, vehicles are being redirected via Uch Sharif, Jhangra, and Jalalpur interchanges. Meanwhile, southbound traffic is being diverted through Shah Shams, Sher Shah, and Shujabad South.
Flood threatens motorway: traffic diverted as precautionary measure
The spokesperson added that Motorway Police personnel are present on-site to guide road users, while the SP Motorway Police is also at the location with a team to monitor the situation.

According to NHA sources, heavy floodwater erosion has raised concerns of a possible breach. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali Kathia also confirmed the closure and said that emergency measures are underway.
Sandbags and stones are being placed at vulnerable spots to protect the motorway from further damage. Kathia expressed hope that flood levels in the area will decline within the next 24 hours, noting that river flows across Punjab are dropping rapidly.
At Panjnad, water discharge has already reduced to 392,000 cusecs, officials said.
