Motorway Police crackdown against overloading, overcharging during Eid

WEB DESK: The Motorway Police is carrying out a campaign against over-charging of fares by public transporter companies, as well as overloading during Eidul Azha.

Special measures have been taken for this campaign in the Central Region, on the instructions of Motorway Police Inspector General B A Nasir, said Syed Farid Ali, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Motorway Police.

Moreover, Motorway Police Spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said on Friday that heavy fines will be imposed on those found involved in overcharging and overloading. Transporters should ensure that they do not charge exorbitant fares from those travelling to their homes during Eid holidays, the spokesperson added.

The directives issued for transportation companies also includes ensuring the fitness of vehicles for safe travel, Ahmed said, adding that passenger vehicles cannot travel without a fitness certificate.

The spokesperson informed that a special team has also been formed under the supervision of Sector Commander Atif Shahzad to ensure the implementation of these directives.

Fares and loads are being monitored on Thokar, Babu Sabu, Chohang, M-2, M-3 and Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, Syed Imran Ahmed said.
