Motorways M-2, M-3, M-4, M-11 blocked for traffic

ISLAMABAD: Several motorways—M-2, M-3, M-4 and M-11—were shut down for traffic due to dense fog, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) announced on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the NHMP confirmed that the closures were a precautionary measure aimed to ensuring public safety and facilitating safe travel for motorists.

M-2 motorway

The M-2 motorway connecting Lahore to Kot Momin was closed as visibility dropped to dangerously low levels.

The vital route is frequently  used by commuters and trucks, making the closure a huge disruption for many travellers and businesses.

M-3 motorway closed

Similarly, the M-3 motorways linking Lahore to Jaranwala was also shut down for traffic due to low visibility due to fog. The white mist blanketed most parts of the motorway, created dangerous driving conditions.

M-4 motorway shuttered

The M-4 motorway was closed form Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad. The stretch is critical for the movement of goods and passengers between the major cities and towns in the region.

M-11 shut down

The Lahore-Sialkot motorway (M-11) has also been affected, with reports indicating that it was closed due to the persistent fog.

The M-11 motorway serves as an important  corridor for trade and travel between the two major cities, both economic and industrial hubs.

Travel advisory

Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during peak foggy hours. The NHMP stated that the closure were in place to protect the public and to prevent potential accidents.
