Weather update: Heavy rain, snowfall grip various parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The much-awaited rain and snowfall have finally arrived across various parts of the country, bringing a pleasant change in weather. The rain is expected to continue for next 24 hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, Peshawar recorded the highest rainfall at 35mm, while snowfall is expected to continue in the upper regions, including Murree.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi woke up to heavy showers on Thursday morning. In the last 12 hours, Islamabad recorded 22mm of rain, while Rawalpindi received 20mm. Several areas in Punjab, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sharqpur Sharif, Kasur, Raiwind, Ferozewala, Patoki, Pakpattan, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Kamoki, Sargodha, Sahiwal, and Sialkot, also witnessed continuous rain.
The latest weather data shows significant rainfall across different regions. Peshawar received 35mm, Lower Dir 27mm, Mardan 25mm, Faisalabad 18mm, Lahore 8mm, while Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal recorded 17mm each. Murree experienced 5mm of rain along with one inch of snowfall.

Travel warnings have been issued as authorities fear slippery roads may disrupt traffic flow in Haveli, Bagh, and Poonch. Avalanche risks have increased in Azad Kashmir, while landslides are expected in various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Balochistan, most districts will experience cold and dry weather, while Sindh is expected to remain mostly dry.
In response to the harsh weather conditions, PDMA has confirmed that salt is being spread on roads in Murree to prevent accidents. Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed has directed the Murree administration to stay on high alert. Citizens have been advised to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
