Muharram moon expected to be sighted on July 18: Met Office

ISLAMABAD: The Met Office has forecasted that the sighting of the Muharram moon was likely to take place on 18th July, marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Muharram.

It said that the 29th day of Zil Hajj and the day of Ashura are expected to fall on Friday, 28th July.

The Meteorological Department has indicated that the moon was set to rise at 11:32 pm on 17th July, but cloudy conditions were expected in many parts of the country, potentially hindering the moon sighting process.

The sunset was projected to occur at 7:24 PM, followed by the moonrise at 8pm.

According to the Climate Data Processing Centre of the Meteorological Department, the age of the moon in Karachi at the time of sunset will be 20 hours and 17 minutes.

The moon sighting for Muharram typically occurs 46 minutes after sunset, with a minimum age of 19 hours required to spot the moon.
