Muharram security: Punjab imposes section 144

muharram security section 144 imposed in Punjab

LAHORE: Enhancing security measures, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from today (June 27) till July 6 to maintain law and order during Muharram.

The decision, taken by the Punjab Home Department, comes in response to the heightened security sensitivity during the holy month.

Under Section 144, there will be a complete ban on public gatherings, unauthorised religious processions, display of weapons, and distribution of inflammatory materials.

Only those religious processions and gatherings that have been pre-approved by the authorities will be allowed, while any new or unapproved events will not be permitted during this period.

As an additional security measure, pillion riding has also been banned across the province. This ban will be specifically enforced on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, the most sensitive days of the month.

These restrictions will remain in effect from Muharram 1 to 10. The Home Department has directed all district administrations and police officials to ensure strict enforcement.

Authorities have been instructed to take immediate legal action against anyone found violating Section 144.
