ISLAMABAD: Much to the disappointment of the public, the Murree-Patriata chairlifts and cable car system have once again been closed for tourists.
The administration has ordered that the cable car will only be reopened after obtaining a fitness certificate.
Earlier Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a meeting in this connection and she has directed that citizens’ safety is the government’s prime responsibility and the cable cars be only allowed to reopen after a complete fitness certificate.
The Murree Patriata chairlifts and cable cars was reopened two months back for tourists after closure of 11 months ago for maintenance and repair works.
According to Moazzam Nazir, the Regional In-charge of TDCP, the safety of tourists is the top priority and the chairlifts will only be reopened after complete safety checks.
Patriata known as New Murree is located roughly 15 kilometers from the major hills in the direction of Lower Topa.
The country’s longest and most technologically advanced lift and cable/Cabin vehicle measure 3.25 kilometers in length. According to an official, the Patriata institution receives almost one million visitors annually.
The cable car and chair lift rides system, which runs from New Murree to Patriata, a 7-kilometer ride, is a major tourist attraction both in summers and winters.
