ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, recently released from custody, has announced his unwavering commitment to securing amnesty for all those involved in the tumultuous events of May 9.
Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Sheikh Rashid expressed his gratitude to those who had eagerly awaited his release, which occurred after approximately 40 days in detention. He provided reassurance that he had not suffered any harm during his period of confinement.

In a post on X, he shared that his life’s purpose going forward is to secure release for those incarcerated under charges pertaining to May 9 events. “My life’s mission now is to advocate for the authorities to grant amnesty to individuals who remain in hiding, are incarcerated, or have been wrongly implicated for the tragic incidents that unfolded on May 9,” he wrote.

He added, “I humbly implore my followers to join me in this peaceful endeavor. While I have seldom made such appeals in my life, today is an exception.”
Sheikh Rashid was taken into custody in September, with his arrest occurring at his residence on the outskirts of Islamabad before he was subsequently transferred to Rawalpindi.
