NA dissolved as president signs summary

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was dissolved at midnight on Thursday after President Arif Alvi signed a summary sent to him by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The president signed the summary late at midnight.

PM Sharif and Opposition Leader Raja Riaz will meet on Thursday to finalise a name for the caretaker prime minister slot.

As outlined in Article 58: “The president shall dissolve the National Assembly if so advised by the prime minister; and the National Assembly shall, unless sooner dissolved, stand dissolved at the expiration of forty-eight hours after the prime minister has so advised.”

Following the dissolution, the cabinet is set to be disbanded, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif maintaining his position until the appointment of a caretaker prime minister takes place.
