NA speaker seeks applications for picking up opposition leader

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has sought applications for the selection of the opposition leader in the lower house of Parliament.

The NA speaker stated that applications should be submitted to his office by 6pm as some individuals have already submitted applications for the opposition leader’s slot.

He announced that he will issue a notification at 11am tomorrow (Tuesday) and a person nominated by the majority of members will become the opposition leader.

On this occasion, Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf leader Omar Ayub Khan protested and demanded the issuance of the notification.

The NA speaker responded, saying he was seeking the applications according to his (Omar Ayub’s) desire.

During the session, MAN Hameed Hussain stated that he had submitted a resolution regarding Palestine and demanded that the government officially observe Al-Quds Day. The speaker mentioned that a resolution regarding the matter has already been passed.

MNA Noor Alam Khan urged the speaker to run the house according to the agenda, accusing him of repeatedly giving time to only selected members.

He said that the people were facing a plethora of issues and the issue of inflation should be discussed in the assembly.

During Noor Alam Khan’s point of order, members of the Sunni Ittehad Council protested, leading to the adjournment of the National Assembly session.
