naanbai association strike

ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Naanbais Association has announced a strike on May 8 (Wednesday) in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They rejected the government’s notification of reduction in the prices of naan and roti, saying that the authorities did not consider the ground realities before fixing new prices.

Tandoor operators said that they will not accept any decision that has been taken without taking their opinions and concerns into account. They have also filed a petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the government’s decision to enforce lower prices.

All Pakistan Naanbais Association President Shafiq Qureshi, Punjab association president Aftab Gul and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa association president Malik Iqbal Paindakhel addressed a press conference in Islamabad on the matter. They said, “The government did not take the naanbai association into confidence; why are we being forced to sell at lower than the cost price.”

They added that cases have been arrested against the members of their associations and some arrests have also been made. They added that the government has issued lower prices when they haven’t even resolved the already existing problems like gas load-shedding and increasing electricity and gas tariffs.

The association representatives demanded a subsidy for all registered tandoors if the government wishes to implement new prices.
