ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued summons to former leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case, involving £190 million.
Today, Faisal Vawda has been summoned by the NAB Islamabad chapter, while Ali Zaidi, Farough Nasim, and Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui are scheduled to appear before the NAB investigation team on Thursday, September 14. These former federal ministers are required to provide records and participate in the inquiry.
Additionally, former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was summoned today by the NAB regarding the British National Crime Agency (NCA) £190 million case.
In a significant development, PTI Chairman, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, had their names added to the Exit Control List (ECL) on Monday, as part of the ongoing investigation into corruption related to the Al-Qadir University Trust. The recommendation for their inclusion on the ECL was initiated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi and subsequently approved by the federal cabinet through a circular summary. To formalize their inclusion on the ECL, NAB will be corresponding with the Ministry of Interior.
This summons and inclusion on the ECL mark significant developments in the ongoing investigation.
The PTI Chairman, accompanied by his wife Bushra Bibi and other party leaders, currently faces a NAB inquiry regarding an agreement between the PTI government and a property tycoon. This agreement allegedly resulted in a £190 million loss to the national treasury.
Charges suggest that the former Prime Minister and other accused individuals manipulated £190 million (equivalent to Rs50 billion at the time) provided by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government as part of the arrangement with the property tycoon. Additionally, they stand accused of receiving undue benefits, including over 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for the establishment of Al-Qadir University.
