ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new no-chip Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), with more integrated services and even lifetime validity.
The primary upgrade in the new CNICs is the absence of chip, but higher availability of digital features, including the QR code. While the previous version, with the chip, also includes the QR code, this new one also allows access to the holder’s digital identity through the PakID mobile app.
CNIC holders who are still using the no-chip card can renew their identity cards directly to the new ‘no-chip but digitally equipped card’, NADRA said. This not only removes the need to transition to chip-based Smart National Identity Card (SNIC) but also offers a lower-cost alternative for renewal and modification of CNICs.
The new CNICs will also display information in both Urdu and English languages, just the like SNICs, ensuring consistency across passports and other official documents.
LIFETIME VALIDITY
The most attractive feature, however, is that the new NADRA no-chip identity cards offer lifetime validity for organ donors. These ID cards will also possess distinctive mark, signifying that the holder is a registered organ donor.
Persons with disabilities can also opt for lifetime validity of NADRA no-chip identity cards.
COST STRUCTURE OF NO-CHIP ID CARDS
The cost structure of these cards is also lower than the smart NICs, with normal processing costing merely Rs400. Normal processing refers to the month-long waiting period in receiving the CNIC after applying. For urgent processing, that delivers in two weeks, the cost is Rs1,150 as determined by NADRA. For executive processing, delivery in nine days, the cost is Rs2,150.
This is nearly 40 per cent lower than the cost structure for SNICs, which still cost Rs750 for normal processing, Rs1,500 for urgent processing and Rs2,500 for executive processing.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Citizens wishing to renew their CNICs can do so by visiting any NADRA service center or using their online application portal. For the latter option, an account needs to be made on the PAK-IDENTITY portal.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
If the CNIC holder is only opting to renew the card without any change in information, no documentation will be required, other than updated photo.
If there are any additional changes needed, for instance address change, then the CNIC holder will also need to submit Permanent address/Blood relatives /spouse’s ID with same address OR computerized utility bill (electricity, gas or water) on self/parent/spouse name and address OR any property document of applicant/parent/ spouse OR verified Local /Domicile/PRC Certificate OR Affidavit/Rent Deed from/with house owner.
NADRA website can be consulted for any more details needed for renewal. However, name change, either due to change in marital status or for some other reason, will require an in-person visit to the NADRA service centers.
IN-PERSON VISIT
As per NADRA rules, you will undergo following steps at NADRA Registration Center (NRC):
After issuance of a token to determine the order of service, your photograph will be captured.
Afterwards, your fingerprints and signature will be taken.
In the next phase, your required data entry will be done and form will be printed to be reviewed by yourself.
You will be handed over a printed version of your application form, which you will have to submit after confirming the printed information and attestation by a gazetted officer.
To avoid attestation of the form, you can bring along any of your blood relative and provide their biometrics at the NRC.
