ISLAMABAD: The nation will celebrate Pakistan Day on Sunday (tomorrow) with a renewed commitment to work for the country’s progress and stability.
The day commemorates the adoption of the historic Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940, which laid the foundation for an independent homeland for the Muslims of South Asia.
The celebrations will begin with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. Special prayers will be offered in mosques after Fajr for the nation’s prosperity, solidarity, and development. The national flag will be hoisted on major government buildings.
Radio Pakistan and PTV will air special programs to highlight the significance of the day and pay tribute to the leaders of the Pakistan Movement.
MARCH 23 PARADE
The Pakistan Day parade, the main highlight of the celebrations, will be held on a smaller scale this year due to the ongoing holy month of Ramazan. Despite this, officials have assured that the event will retain its traditional enthusiasm.
The parade, set to take place at the President’s House, will feature contingents from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. President Asif Ali Zardari will be the chief guest. The Pakistan Air Force will conduct a fly-past, and the Pakistan Army’s pipe band will also perform.
Foreign dignitaries, ambassadors, and other distinguished guests have been invited to attend. The government aims to celebrate Pakistan Day while maintaining the sanctity of Ramazan.
INVESTITURE CEREMONY
Later in the afternoon, an investiture ceremony will be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where President Asif Ali Zardari will confer awards and medals on individuals for their outstanding contributions in various fields.
