NDMA issues countrywide heatwave alert

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert as a heatwave grips the country from today till April 27.
According to the heatwave alert advisory, temperatures are expected to rise significantly across Pakistan, with Balochistan and Sindh likely to cross 40°C. Dry conditions are forecast across most parts of the country including Islamabad and Lahore, where the temperatures are expected to exceed 35°C.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to face similar hot and dry weather.
However, some relief in the form of light rain and partly cloudy skies is predicted for several districts of KP, including Peshawar, Swat, Charsadda, Abbottabad, and others. Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK may also receive scattered showers.

NDMA has asked local administrations to stay alert and take preventive steps in vulnerable areas. The public has been advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take extra care of children, the elderly, and people with health issues.
KARACHI HOSPITALS ON HIGH ALERT
Hospitals in Karachi have gone on high alert as temperatures soar. Jinnah Hospital has set up a 22-bed heatstroke unit to provide urgent care.
Doctors report a rise in skin conditions due to heat and humidity, including rashes, allergies, heat pimples, and fungal infections.
Health experts are advising people to stay out of the sun, drink plenty of water, and practice proper hygiene to avoid illness.
