NDMA issues flash and urban flooding alerts

ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts for flash and urban flooding due to the recent monsoon rains, which are expected to continue until July 7.
The NDMA said that there is a significant risk of flooding in the rivers of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Murree, Guliyat, and Kohistan. It said that the rivers in Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, DG Khan, and Rajanpur are also at risk. Flooding is anticipated in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, and Peshawar. Moderate flooding is expected in the Kabul River.
The NDMA has advised people to avoid crossing flood rails and entering floodwaters to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that landslides may disrupt roads at vulnerable points in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
It said that heavy downpours, windstorms, and lightning could affect daily routines and cause damage to weak structures such as Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
The PMD has advised farmers to plan their activities according to the weather forecast. It said that travelers and tourists should exercise extra caution, adjust their travel plans based on weather conditions, and avoid any potentially dangerous situations during the wet spell.
The PMD has asked all authorities concerned to remain on high alert and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
