NEC session moved up, PM convenes meeting today instead of tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The National Economic Council (NEC) meeting has been called for 3 PM today (Wednesday), moved up by one day from previous schedule of tomorrow (Thursday) instead of tomorrow.

Sources familiar with the matter have said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the NEC meeting today. The meeting has been called to discuss economic and fiscal outlook ahead of the annual budget announcement on June 10.

The budget targets will be approved in the NEC meeting today, including the National Development Plan (NDP), Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and other macroeconomic targets.

The economic growth rate, agricultural and industrial targets for the new fiscal year will also be approved during the NEC session, along with the targets of the services sector.

Representatives of the federal and provincial governments will participate in the meeting, sources said.
