TLP calls off protest march after govt ‘argees’ to denoty it as militant outfit

Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed that extensive negotiations have taken place over the past three days with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) to address the demands put forth by the party.

Highlighting the demands, the minister said out of the twelve demands, ten were related to ‘Namoos e Risalat’ (Honour of the prophet) while the rest of the two pertained to petroleum prices and Dr Afia Siddiqui respectively.

“The procedures put in place for reducing petroleum prices were shared with the TLP delegation members who have been assured that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is taking steps to decrease their prices,” Sana said.

On the issue of Afia Siddiqui, who has been serving a lengthy prison sentence, he claimed that the case was being pursued as one that is of national importance while deeming the sentencing of Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years in prison as “unfair”.

Taking about the PTI chief, he said “those writing to (American) congress members to save themselves should write a letter to them for Afia too.”

On the other hand, TLP leaders said their peaceful long march aimed to bring relief to the poor while asserting that the “unprecedented demonstration” was driven by the party’s manifesto, “which aims to make the lives of underprivileged individuals easier.”
