NEPRA announces uninterrupted power supply during national exams

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notice instructing all power distribution companies to ensure “uninterrupted” power supply during the national exam period.

NEPRA stated that that no load shedding should occur during while the national examinations was on-going, as any disruption could adversely affect the academic performance of the students.

The regulatory body communicated the instructions to all electric distribution companies. NEPTRA stressed on maintaining “uninterrupted power supply” during the national exams. It also warned that failure to comply would result in a “regulatory action”.

According to NEPRA, complaints of load shedding during exam sessions have been received. The regulatory authority stated that any power disruption can negatively impact the exam-takers.

“It has come to the notice of NEPRA … that during exam sessions, distribution companies have been carrying out load shedding,” NEPRA said in a statement. “This practice has caused significant disruptions for students appearing in exams, particularly during the duration of their exam papers,” it added.

“Distribution companies are hereby directed to revisit all load shedding activities, especially during the duration of exam papers. It is important that uninterrupted power supply is maintained for electricity consumers, with particular emphasis on ensuring no load shedding occurs during exam session,” it said.

“As outlined above, please take all necessary actions to comply with this directive [and prioritise] the smooth conduct of exams and the well-being of students. Failure to adhere to this directive may result in further regulatory action.”
