ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) delivered an unpleasant surprise to consumers late on Monday with a substantial Rs 7.5 per unit increase in electricity prices.
According to a statement released by NEPRA, the price hike was authorised as part of a fuel price adjustment. The regulatory body approved the hike in electricity rates by Rs 7.5 per kilowatt-hour to account for fuel price adjustments in January 2024.
This increase is slated to take effect in March 2024 and will impact all electricity consumers, with the exception of Karachi Electric (K-Electric) users and lifelong consumers.
NEPRA’s decision is aimed at mitigating the escalating costs linked to fuel used in power generation, a factor significantly influencing electricity tariffs.
