LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to initiate large-scale clean drinking water projects across the province, including the installation of 963 new water filtration plants in various districts. The plan aims to significantly improve access to safe and clean water, particularly in underserved and remote areas.

According to an official briefing, clean water schemes will also be launched in the Potohar region using small dams as a primary water source. In addition, two surface water treatment plants are part of the broader strategy to provide long-term water solutions.

Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin announced that work on clean water projects will begin soon in Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Similar initiatives are also being planned for Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, he said, underlining the provincial government’s commitment to addressing water scarcity in southern Punjab.

The minister added that multiple new water supply schemes will be launched on an annual basis to ensure sustained access to clean drinking water. He emphasised that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is keen on sustainable and long-term planning to tackle water challenges in the province.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Punjab Saaf Pani Company stated that transparency and merit will be strictly ensured in the implementation of all projects.
