ISLAMABAD: Widespread fog has enveloped several regions, leading to the closure of motorways at various locations. However, various sections of the motorways have been opened to traffic on Sunday morning after the visibility improved, National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said on Sunday.
They said that motorway M1 is shut down from Islamabad to Peshawar, while M2 (Lahore-Islamabad) has been opened to traffic, the NHMP said.
Motorway M-4 from Gojra to Pindi Bhattian has been opened to traffic, the NHMP said.
Additionally, they said, motorway M3 is inaccessible from Faizpur to Darkhana. The stretch of Motorway M5 from Multan to Sukkur is also impassable.
Meanwhile, M-11, spanning from Lahore to Sialkot Toll Plaza has been opened to traffic after the prevailing fog conditions improved, the authorities said.
The National Highways and Motorway Police urged citizens to exercise caution and refrain from traveling in heavy fog.
In Pind Dadan Khan and its surrounding areas, dense fog is causing reduced visibility and disrupting traffic flow.
Tragically, the fog has resulted in four fatal traffic accidents across the country.
On the Jalalpur Bhattian-Wazirabad Road, a collision between a car and a tractor-trolley claimed one life and left another person injured.
Meanwhile, a high-speed bus overturned on the Qamber Shahdadkot section of the Indus Highway, resulting in three fatalities and numerous injuries.
Another bus overturned near the Bhakanpatan Bridge on the Bahawalnagar Arifwala Road, causing injuries to 13 passengers.
A collision between two passenger buses on the Khangarh Alipur Road left five people injured.
Authorities have urged the importance of exercising extreme caution while navigating through the challenging foggy conditions.
