Nighttime showers predicted for Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast nighttime showers in Islamabad and nearby areas, while hot and dry conditions are expected to prevail across most parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

According to the Met Office, thunderstorm and rain are expected in Islamabad and its surrounding areas during the night.

On Saturday  strong winds and heavy rain lashed the federal capital, with reports of hail in some areas. In Abpara, rainwater entered houses, while rising water levels in Nala Lai led authorities to declare a rain emergency in Rawalpindi.

Rain is also likely in several cities of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Khushab, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Mianwali, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara and Sheikhupura.

Light rain may occur in parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Musakhel, Sibi, Bolan, Kohlu, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Awaran, Loralai and Lasbela.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in Waziristan, Bannu, Kurram, Karak, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Thundershowers are also likely at isolated places in Haripur.

Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to receive rain and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, while similar weather is likely in parts of Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, most districts of Sindh will continue to experience extremely hot and dry weather. The Met Office has advised citizens to take precautionary measures.

It is worth mentioning that due to rising temperatures and seasonal changes towards the end of May, sudden rains and strong winds are affecting different parts of the country.
