According to the NIH, the risks and effects of heatwaves are on the rise, with a significant increase in both morbidity and mortality predicted due to heatstroke. The advisory emphasises the urgent need for measures to prevent sunstroke by avoiding direct sunlight and ensuring adequate hydration.

“With the intensifying heatwave, it is crucial for everyone to stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible and to stay hydrated to prevent the complications associated with heatstroke,” stated the NIH advisory.

The NIH also warned that the extreme heat conditions could lead to other health issues, such as typhoid fever, further underlining the importance of taking proactive steps to mitigate the health risks posed by the current climate.
