Nine Islamabad police officials booked for illegally detaining citizens

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday booked nine officials of the Islamabad police for their alleged involvement in illegally detaining citizens and taking extortion.

The case was registered in compliance with directives of the Islamabad High Court.

The IHC had ordered an investigation into the matter on a plea of Miraj Bibi, whose son and grandson were illegally detained without registering a First Information Report (FIR) against them by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), an investigation wing of the Islamabad police.

IHC judge Justice Babar Sattar noted in the written order, “It prima facie appears that DSP Police Station CIA and respondent No5, (ASI) who are public servants, are involved in criminal acts. Let FIA register a complaint in accordance with the investigation undertaken by the FIA and the report be submitted before the court under provisions of law that fall within FIA’s jurisdiction and act against any and all public servants involved or complicit in the criminal conduct alleged.”

The CIA deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a woman police official are among those booked by the FIA.
