No apparent relief in electricity bills

ISLAMABAD: Interim energy minister Power Minister, Muhammad Ali, said on Tuesday that electricity rates will not fall until petrol and dollar prices drop.
“It is difficult to reduce electricity rates until petrol and dollar prices fall,” he said, adding that the caretaker government is fixing things slowly.
Ali further said that the government has decided to take action against defaulters and those involved in power theft.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar to review the power sector.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister received a briefing on the total electricity generation capacity, installed capacity, actual generation, and power distribution in different weathers.
“Immediate action should be taken against defaulters of electricity dues in collaboration with provinces and law enforcement agencies”, said the PM.
No concession would be given to defaulters and power thieves: Kakar
The caretaker Prime Minister emphasized the importance of developing plans for small hydel projects under expert guidance. He noted that these projects could not only produce affordable electricity but also contribute to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.
