RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday rubbished reports suggesting that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir had given an interview to veteran journalist, Suhail Warraich, describing the claims as baseless and motivated by personal publicity.
In a media briefing, DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif clarified that the reference made in journalist Suhail Warraich’s recent column was linked to an event in Brussels. He noted that the gathering was public in nature, where hundreds of people took photographs, but insisted that no discussion pertaining to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Imran Khan or any apology had taken place at the event. Suhail Warraich had earlier taken to X formerly Twitter to share a picture with COAS Munir.
“This is merely an attempt by a journalist to gain personal benefit and publicity,” the DG ISPR remarked, terming the act “inappropriate” and “unbecoming of a senior journalist.” He further warned that “anyone who engages in unlawful actions will have to face the law.”

When asked whether legal action would be taken against Geo or Jang, Lt Gen Sharif refrained from giving a direct answer, instead stressing the importance of responsible conduct. “We have made it very clear that institutions must show wisdom, and the media too should understand that such behaviour is not appropriate,” he said.

Expressing regret, the DG ISPR said it was “unfortunate that even a senior journalist chose to act irresponsibly,” reiterating that the Pakistan Army is a disciplined and responsible institution.
