No let up in smog: Lahore schools closed from today

LAHORE: Despite the Punjab government’s efforts to control the alarming situation due to intense smog, Lahore ranks as the second most polluted city worldwide.
Due to the hazardous level of smog in Lahore, the provincial government has decided to close down all primary schools in the city for one week.
On early Monday morning, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at a dangerous 406, securing the city’s place as the world’s second-most polluted urban center.
The data reveals alarming AQI levels in various areas: DHA Phase 8 at 777, Gulberg at 613, and Green Lockdown Area at 449.
PUNJAB SCHOOLS CLOSED FOR ONE WEEK
Meanwhile, Punjab government has announced closure of primary schools in Lahore for one week in response to the city’s worsening smog and deteriorating air quality.
The schools will remain closed from Nov 4 to 9, Punjab’s Environment Department has announced in a notification.

Lahore has been consistently ranked among the most polluted cities globally, prompting urgent action from authorities.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the air direction from India, has been towards Lahore since one week resulting in increasing smog. “This issue could not be resolved without talking with India,” minister said.
Residents are facing significant health risks as pollution escalates, highlighting the urgent need for regulatory and environmental measures.
