No near future rainfall expected: PDMA

No more rain in near future

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has confirmed that no significant rainfall is expected in the near future, bringing relief to Punjab.

There are also reports of sharp decline in some river flows across the province as monsoon rainfall eases.

According to PDMA Director General, rainfall in the upper catchments has also stopped. The River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is flowing at 182,000 cusecs, while the River Chenab at Marala has dropped to 50,000 cusecs.

At Jassar, the River Ravi has receded to 23,000 cusecs.

Flows in the River Chenab are also declining at Khanqi Headworks (92,000 cusecs) and Qadirabad Headworks (94,000 cusecs). At Trimmu, the flow has decreased to 178,000 cusecs, while Panjnad is recording a higher flow of 660,000 cusecs.

The PDMA noted that while water levels are easing at Trimmu and Sidhnai on the River Ravi, Panjnad continues to experience rising flows. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any potential flood risk in downstream areas.

This comes after weeks of heavy monsoon downpours that swelled rivers and displaced communities in Punjab.

The decline in water levels provides temporary relief, but experts warn that any fresh spell of monsoon rains could again raise flood threats.

Meanwhile mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next twelve hours.

However, partly cloudy weather with rain, wind and thundershowers may occur at isolated places in Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas during afternoon.
