ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah dispelling the impression of any delay in elections said that all coalition partners have developed a consensus to hold elections after dissolving assemblies.
In a media talk, Sanaullah said the assemblies could be dissolved earlier than the scheduled date of August 13 to “facilitate” the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“If the assemblies get dissolved on August 11 instead of August 13, the ECP will get more time to hold elections,” he said.
He asserted that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its supremo, Nawaz Sharif, were clear that assemblies should be dissolved and elections held on time.
He said elections should be held in 60 or 90 days after dissolving assemblies.
To a question about prolonging the caretaker set-up, he said, there is no plan to delay the general elections.
The Minister blamed Chairman Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf for provoking people to sabotage peace.
