No restriction on import of medicines from India: DRAP

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has clarified that there are no restrictions on importing medicines from India under the Import Policy Order 2022.
This statement was made by DRAP during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Health, presided over by Humayun Mohmand. The meeting was attended by top officials from DRAP.
In the session, DRAP officials informed the committee that any individual or hospital, can import medicines from around the world including India by obtaining a non-objection certificate (NOC) from the DRAP.
DRAP seeks price hike of 200 medicines
During the meeting, Senator Mehr Taj highlighted that doctors in Sindh had reported a severe shortage of essential injections and medicines.
DRAP authorities responded and said that a list of available medicines and injections should be provided to them, as many medicines and injections were available and will be provided to the Sindh government.
Senator Mehr Taj also expressed concern over the lack of availability of life-saving medicines in the market.
In the meeting, representatives opposed a proposed bill requiring mandatory blood pressure check-up of patients by doctors.
The bill proposing mandatory blood pressure check ups was earlier presented by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Dr Sania Nishtar.
