Noor Mukadam’s father appeals SC to expedite case


ISLAMABAD: Father of slain Noor Mukadam, former ambassador Shauqat Mukadam, has requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to expedite the case of his daughter’s murder.

Shaukat Muqaddam while addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday,  said that his daughter was killed a day before Eid al-Azha in 2021. He said that the case had a long trial and that it was an open-and-shut case.

He said that the court had sentenced the main accused, Zahir Jaffer, to death. He said that the case went to the high court, where Chief Justice Amir Farooq disposed of the case in a short time. He said that the high court also upheld Zahir Jaffer’s death sentence.

Shaukat Muqaddam said that he had requested the Supreme Court to dispose of the case quickly and punish the accused. He said that the accused should be hanged so that a message goes to society that no one is above the law.

He also demanded that justice be ensured in the case of Sarah Anjum, who w murdered in 2022.  against such cases.

The case of Noor Muqaddam has sparked outrage in Pakistan and has led to calls for stricter laws against violence against women.

Noor Mukadam was murdered at a residence in Islamabad’s affluent Sector F-7/4 on July 20, 2021 leading to widespread national anger. This tragedy ignited protests and candlelight vigils throughout the country. Zahir Jaffer was apprehended by Islamabad police on the same night at his residence, and the trial for the murder commenced in October 2021.
